Wylie Municipal Complex Ground Breaking Ceremony...

Saturday, December 13, 2008 the city of Wylie gathered together to break ground on the city's new municipal complex.

Mayor Eric Hogue welcomes the citizens of Wylie to the Ground Breaking ceremony, “Welcome to this very special day, This complex will serve as the home of our local government. But that is more than just a place for the City Council and all our boards and commissions to meet on a regular basis. These buildings will also serve as the place our employees will be able to come each and every day and perform their jobs as they continue to make Wylie better than what it was yesterday and envision an even brighter tomorrow.

“It will serve as a gathering place for community events and activities...a place for people to watch fireworks, hear a concert, read a book, hold Cub Scout meetings, pay your water bill, host senior citizen activities, play a little basketball, request a copy of the minutes of a City Council meeting, take a look at our planning documents, walk on the track, have a cup of coffee…or even watch a puppet show.”

The day was dedicated to the memory of Larry Williamson, director of finance, who died in November 2008 at the age of 61. “Today is a moment in time that began nearly four years ago when a finance director started pulling numbers together to make a dream a reality. I just wish that finance director could be here with us today.

“And so today, I want to dedicate this groundbreaking ceremony to the memory of our friend Larry Williamson. Larry hoped to live to see this moment; unfortunately, his time on earth was over before this day arrived, and so this day is for him.”

Mayor Hogue thanked the City's Council members who had been instrumental in the project’s planning, as well as the members of the 2005 Bond Committee who had “spent countless hours” discussing and planning for the complex.

“It’s the people who make Wylie what it is. We’re blessed with outstanding citizens,”
